“God Speaks in the Silence of the Heart”

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people” – 1 Timothy 2:1

During today’s first Upper School chapel, students were given the opportunity to pray for our school, for fellow students, and for faculty and staff.  As every person entered the gym, he or she was given an index card and asked to write a burden on it: something from the heart which he or she would give up in prayer.  After a time of worship, everyone went back to the same box into which they had earlier dropped their cards and picked up someone else’s.  Then each went to God in prayer both for the person and the prayer request he or she had taken.  After everyone gathered in the bleachers again, several students voluntarily took up the microphone and prayed aloud before their peers, asking the Lord to bless us throughout this school year.

Equally moving, however, was the fact that a graduate of the Class of 2016, Destiny Perkins, not only joined in today’s chapel experience, but also spoke to the student body about how she misses Hillcrest and the numerous opportunities students here are given to worship.  How blessed we are at HCS to start a new school year with boldly proclaiming God’s love!

Class Ring Craze

Excitement was in the air this morning as members of the Class of 2019 picked up the class rings they ordered at the end of their sophomore year.  Pictured below are just a few who were happy to display their Cougar spirit.

New Upper School Faculty

Hillcrest is proud to welcome 4 new, yet highly experienced, teachers to our Upper School faculty this year.  From left to right: Clark Russell – Chemistry and Earth Science, Patsy Wilkinson – English and Creative Writing, Libby Berrong – Social Studies, and Wyck Neely – Biology and Anatomy & Physiology. We’re so glad all of you have become part of the Cougar family!

The Upper School is also pleased to have a long-time and well-loved faculty member join us “up the hill” this year; Stephanie McCrory has moved from teaching kindergarten to instructing a few junior high courses.

Senior Caravan

In keeping with a long-standing Hillcrest tradition, many members of the Class of 2018 participated in a Senior Caravan before school started this morning, riding around the upper school parking lot , honking their horns, and waving to underclassmen in order to celebrate a successful end to their “last first week of high school.”

Class Rings Are Coming!!

Junior Students and Parents: Herff-Jones will be coming to Hillcrest TUESDAY in order to deliver class rings!!  Anyone who ordered last year will meet in the library during break to pick up his or her order.

Please be aware that only those who have already paid in full, or who bring money Tuesday to pay the remainder of the balance due, will be allowed to get their rings that day.  Contact Mrs. Bridges if you have any questions; she can tell you how to get in touch with our representative.
