Futboleros Entertain Lower School

Our Lower School students outdid themselves in their World’s Finest Chocolate sales this year; as a reward, they were treated to a show by the Futboleros, a soccer entertainment team! The Futboleros performed various tricks with their soccer balls and encouraged the students to believe in themselves. Then, in a game of Teachers versus Futboleros, our teachers won!

Congratulations to the following winners of the chocolate sales:
5 lb World’s Finest Chocolate Bar – Silas Chambers
3rd place – Calvin Ramsey
2nd place – Coleston Foster
1st place – London McKenzie

Lower School Loves Veterans

This past Friday, Hillcrest’s Lower School hosted its annual special program to honor local Veterans of our nation’s armed services.  As part of the celebration, some of the classes sang to these special men and women, and then lined up to shake their hands and to say, “Thank you for your service.”

Brooke Boney, a 6th grader in Mrs. McNamee’s class, also read her original poem as part of the Veteran’s Day program.

Thank You, Veterans

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1872 – 1918

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Mrs. Harwell ensures that her 7th & 8th grade English students understand the importance of Veterans’ Day
